PAADAL PETRA SHIVA STHALANGAL DHARSHAN - IN & AROUND THIRUVAIYARU

27, May 2012.

On 26th  and 27th May 2012, I had made the second visit  for the dharshan of Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal in and around Thiruvaiyaru. Till Friday after noon, not thought of making this visit. Since I do not have any planned work on Saturday and Sunday at office, decided to make this visit. During this visit, covered 9 Paadal petra Shiva Sthalangal, one Devara vaipu Sthalam and one Shiva Temple ( for which the route and details were prepared during my first visit

DAY -1 SATURDAY 26-05-2012
From old bus stand of Tanjore reached,  Thenkudi Thittai through town bus. On reaching the temple I could found large number of people came for dharshan of Guru Bhagavan, since this temple is also  a parikara sthalam. Returned back to Kandiyur and waited for the bus to Thiruvedhikudi. Understand that there is no bus, hired an auto and the driver name is Ismail, who took me to Thiruvedhi Kudi, Thiruchorttruthurai,  Thiruppulla mangai ( Pasupathy Koil ),  Sakkarappalli ( Iyampettai – A muslim dominated area ) and dropped me at Thirupazhalanam. For that he charged me Rs 500.00. On the way to Thiruchorttruthurai, he took me to a Shiva Temple at Veerasingampettai,  where  276 Shiva lingams are installed in rows. After Thirupazhanam went to Thingaloor one of the Devara vaipu sthalam. From main road arch auto’s charging Rs 80 up and down. Devotees from other  states also visiting Thingaloor for parikaram. The temple is small and Gurubhavan  in a small shrine.  Ate the prasadham offered by a devotee and returned to Thiruvaiyaru to Kumbakonam main road.  Then I proceeded to Vadakurangattuthurai and had the evening dharshn around 16.30 hrs. Out of 11 temples I visited, in three temples ladies who takes care of the temples opened the doors  and helped me for dharshan.

After Vadakurangattuthurai, I was fully exhausted due to heat and eyes were burning ( I was travelling in an ordinary bus to Kumbakonam again to Tanjore, I could not sleep ). Also people advised me to spend more time in Thiruvaiyaru, since the temple complex is huge. Only two temples are left out from my list namely, Thiruvaiyaru and Keezhapazhuvur, near Ariyalur. So decided to close the first day’s dharshan and returned to Tanjore.

DAY -2, SUNDAY 27-05-2012.
After vacating the room, proceeded to Thiruvaiyaru. Really temple complex is huge and the walls are very high. Expected a huge crowd, but very few devotes came for dharshan in the morning.  After dharshan reached THIRUPAZHUVUR (Keezhapazhuvur) around 09.00 Hrs and  had a good dharshan. Completed the dharshan of Paadal petra shiva Sthalangal in and around Thiruvaiyaru  as per the schedule. Returned  Chennai  around  20.00 hrs.   Except heat and tired I did not faced any  difficulty.

I am sorry to say that, ( I doubt) poojas are not conducted regularly. The temple is always kept closed and the Sivachariyar is also  not living within the Village.  Whether Hindu religious & endowment board will look in to the same ?, so that the devotees should not get disappointment when they travels from distant places to get the dharshan of Lord Shiva

Second time visited to this temple on 12-08-2013. This time I was lucky to get the mobile number of the Gurukkal which was written on the wall. The Gurukkal responded to my call and had Lord Shiva's dharshan. The details of the temple and photographs are up loaded in that post. For the details please click the link given below.

  2. Dear Sir,

Taking a train to Tanjore is a good idea. Yes There is Amman temple at Veerasingampettai. From Tanjore to Thiruvaiyaru route Place called Kandiyur, take a right before Kandiyur Shiva Temple to reach Veera singampettai. about 6 KM.
At Tanjore except Prakdeeswarar temple you can visit Saraswathy mahal, which is basically a museum for art and culture. Other than that there is no interesting place.

    Thanks and regards
