MAHAMAHAM 2016, KUMBAKONAM TAMIL NADU. Sri SAKKARAPANI, SRI SARANGAPANI SRI SOMESWARAR AND SRI SIVAYOGINATHAR OF THIRUVISANALLUR

After the holy dip in mahamaham tanks and darshan of Sri Sakkarapani, went to Sri Sarangapani Temple, during this MAHAMAHAM 2016.  Since the general Q was very long due to holiday and Mahamaha crowd also added. So Purchased quick darsan ticket for Rs 30 and had the darsan of Sri Sarangapani and Sri Kamalavalli thayar.

SRI SARANGAPANI TEMPLE
The portramai kulam is on the western side entrance of Sri Sarangapani Temple and on the other side Sri Kumbeswarar temple. This is one of the 108 Divya desa vaisnava sthalam and has got the 7 alwars Mangalasasanam.

Some of the important features of this  temple are....
  1. The temple is facing east with a 11 tier Rajagopuram of height measuring 173 feet ( 63 meters). In addition to this there are 5 more small Rajagopurams.
  2. Portramai tank is at the western side entrance of the Rajagopuram.
  3. Thayar Komalavalli is in a separate sannadhi  and we have to  worship thayar first before going to moolavar sanctum.
  4. The sanctum is built like a chariot with horse and elephant are pulling. The sanctum has two entrances are called as Utharayana vasal and Dhakshanayana vasal. These entrances are alternatively kept open for 6 months.
  5. Moolavar Sarangapani is in sayana posture and Thayar Lakshmi is in front.
  6. Some of the Bharatha Natya 108 karnas are sculptured around the sanctum base and Rajagopuram base.
  7. The temple has the contributions of medieval Chozhas, Vijayanagara empire and Madurai Nayaks.

  1. The temple is kept open between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.
