A Depa sthambam is in front of the temple and there is no Rajagopuram. There is a small entrance arch.
The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum Arthamandapam and a mukamandapam. The sanctum is constructed in a unique fashion with eight elephants holding the moolavar sanctum similar to Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple of Madurai. The reliefs on the adhistanam looks beautiful. In koshatam Dhakshinamurthy and Siva Durgai, Brahma is under the Elephant.
In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Ambal, Valli Devasena Subramaniyar, all are facing east. Since Lord Shiva, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar and Ambal Loganayaki ( Ambal moortham is made with thiruvasi ) are in a row facing same direction, called as Somaskanda form. As per one of the latest inscription the temple this temple is called as Arumugavelavar Thirukoil.
The Shivalinga is flat and red in colour. Apart from the Avudayar which holds the Shivalingam, there is a carving of Avudayar on the floor.
The Story of Shiva swallowing the poison ( which came out of Vasuki snake while churning the milk ocean by Devas and asuras ) and the same was stopped by Ambal by holding the kandam of Lord Shiva is related to this temple. Hence Shiva is Called as Najundeswarar also called as Neelakandeswarar.
The temple will be kept opened between 06.00 hrs to 12.30 Hrs and 16.30 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

Karamadai is on the way to Mettupalayam from Coimbatore.

The temple is about 300 meters from Karamadai bus stop.
